In 1918, BÚthune was largely bombed. Since the base of the belfry is protected by houses, the base remains intact after the bombing.
The belfry was rebuilt in the 1920s. In 2007, a hall for fresh products was built at its foot. This creates a connection to the past through the link with a linen hall that borders the belfry from the 14th century.
