The Butte Montmartre

Description

In 2025 , La Butte Montmartre became part of the final stage of the Tour de France for the first time, marking a unique and spectacular change to the traditional final stage in Paris. The addition of this hill reflects a tribute to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where Montmartre also played a significant role in the cycling race. The Butte Montmartre was climbed three times just before the traditional finish on the Champs-Élysées.

The climb itself is 1.1 kilometers long with an average gradient of 5.9% , entirely paved with cobblestones, making it a challenging section. The summit of the final climb is approximately six kilometers from the finish, offering attackers the opportunity to form a breakaway and keep the peloton at bay. This makes the Tour's finale more exciting and tactical than usual.

It was Wout van Aert who broke away from Tadej Pogacar on the final pass up Montmartre. He won the revamped final stage of the 2025 Tour de France.
