Île de la Cité is the historical and geographical heart of Paris, situated in the middle of the Seine River. This small island is considered the cradle of the city and is home to some of Paris's most beautiful and monumental sights, including the world-famous Gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral , immortalized in Victor Hugo 's novel. Besides the cathedral, you'll also find the magnificent Sainte-Chapelle , known for its stunning stained-glass windows, and the Conciergerie , a former royal palace and prison where Queen Marie-Antoinette spent her final hours. The island is centrally located and is connected to the banks of the Seine by several historic bridges, including the oldest bridge in Paris, the Pont Neuf .
Walking around Île de la Cité also means experiencing centuries of Parisian history intertwined in narrow streets, charming squares like Place Dauphine , and tranquil quays like the Square du Vert-Galant , where you can enjoy the romantic atmosphere and stunning views over the water. It's a place where you can feel both old and cultural Paris, surrounded by impressive architecture and a rich history that marks the city's development through time.
