Saint-Victour is a French commune located in the Corrèze department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Situated to the southeast of the Millevaches plateau, the commune of Saint-Victour lies on a plateau that slopes down towards the Dordogne valley. Its altitude ranges from 735 m at Puy de Chanoux to 495 m in the Diège valley, at the Chaumettes dam. This part of the lower Limousin between Diège and Dordogne is characterized by deep valleys whose slopes form "costes". They have always represented an obstacle to human penetration. The commune of Saint-Victour covers 1,479 hectares; it has the shape of a bird's wing; it measures 6.5 km from west to east and 4.5 km from north to south. It is bordered by 8 communes: Saint-Exupéry-les-Roches, Veyrières, Saint-Bonnet-près-Bort, Margerides, Roche-le-Peyroux, Sainte-Marie-Lapanouze, Saint-Étienne-la-Geneste, and Chirac-Bellevue. Saint-Victour is bordered to the west by the Diège, which joins the Dordogne not far away. It originates in the Millevaches plateau, near Saint-Setiers at an altitude of 885 m and is 48 km long. The main tributary of the Diège in the commune is the Ozange, fed by the Dozanne. The commune has seven ponds and used to have up to five water mills. Woods, fallow land, and coppices cover the high ground and the banks of the Diège. The old species, beech, oak, and chestnut, are increasingly being replaced by conifers. The forest is expanding at the expense of agriculture, which is devoted to cattle and sheep farming. Heathlands, rye, and buckwheat have nearly disappeared. Meadows dominate. The number of farms has greatly diminished, from 42 in 1750 to 39 in 1930 and 8 at the beginning of the 21st century.
