Allées de Verdelais

The allées de Verdelais are an esplanade located in Verdelais, in the French department of Gironde, France.
The site is situated in the heart of the village of Verdelais and extends in front of the basilica of Notre-Dame for about 200 m, from east to west. Next to the basilica is the Celestine convent, part of which has been transformed into a town hall and another part into a municipal school. A pedestrian space has been reserved in front of the basilica and the convent. Various businesses are established along this avenue, such as a café, a hotel, a grocery store, as well as a post office and a retirement home. Vehicle traffic and parking are allowed, with one-way traffic from east to west on the northern road, and two-way traffic on the southern road which constitutes the departmental road D19e6. On the eastern side of the esplanade, a monument known as “Generous Benevolence” was erected in 1851 in gratitude to a benefactor of the municipality. At the western end, a votive cross dating from 1630 stands, and a retaining wall with a balustrade overlooks the departmental road D120.
