Osenbach

Situated at the end of the Vallée Noble, Osenbach is a small village set in a most attractive natural setting. It boasts splendid views of the Petit and Grand Ballons. In the Vosges foothills, surrounded by beautiful fir forests, it's an ideal destination for green tourism. Osenbach occupies the northern part of the Wintzfelden collapse basin.

The village enjoys a privileged sunny position and an exceptional panoramic wealth linked to its geological structure. The natural flora, protected by prefectoral decree, highlights the great variety of soils. Throughout history, man has helped to diversify the landscape through his cultivation, forestry and mining activities. Osenbach takes its name from the stream that rises here.

A noble family was named after the place and had an ox's head as its coat of arms. Osenbach was part of the Mundat Supérieur, given by Dagobert to Saint Arbogast, bishop of Strasbourg, in 675. The village was once best known for its silver and copper mines, operated from 1498 to 1850 by the bishop of Strasbourg, who owned the rights to the mines and leased them out to various companies.
