Those who read the book “the Perfume” or seen the movie remember the bridge where the perfume shop of Baldini (Dustin Hoffman) was located. It is here that the the main character Grenouilles learned the craft of fragrance collection.
The bridge is located at the border between the first and fourth arrondissements. It connects the Île de la Cité from the Palais de Justice and the Conciergerie, to the Right Bank, at the level of the Théâtre du Châtelet.
The Pont au Change dates from the 9th century AD or even before. The name refers to the gold and money changers who had to settle on the bridge according to Louis VII. Hence the name “Bridge Exchange” or “Pont-en-Change”.
