Lac du Der-Chantecoq, or Lac du Der, is an artificial lake in France in the Champagne-Ardenne region. It was created in 1974 to regulate the flow of water through the Marne. The Marne flows into the Seine in Paris, and the construction of Lac du Der was necessary to ensure that, on one hand, the water in Paris did not rise too high and that, on the other hand, there was always enough water flowing through the Seine. The lake is named after the plain where it is located, the Der, and the village of Chantecocq, which has been submerged by the lake. Two other villages that disappeared due to the construction of the lake were Champaubert-aux-Bois and Nuisement-aux-Bois.
