The current Cathedral of Laon was built on the site of a church built by the Carolingians, which was destroyed during the municipal uprising of 1112.

The new structure proudly displays the light, with its stand on 4 levels (arched vaults, grandstand, triforium, high windows), its wide pink light that is enhanced by the use of limestone for construction. The cathedral, completed in 1235, was restored in the 19th century and again around 2000.
