Almost completely isolated following the destruction of the Revolution in the First World War, the cathedral was part of a complex in the Middle Ages bringing together the episcopal and canonical quarters. Contemporary of Notre Dame-de-Chartres, we grasp better than elsewhere the passage from the first Gothic architecture, to the art of the thirteenth century. Note, facing the remarkable south arm of the transept, the painting by Rubens: the Adoration of the Shepherds.
