The unique aspect of the "dry" lawns of Chermizy is both inherited from the old pastures where goats and sheep thrived, and also from the open-cast exploitation of the underground since the medieval period, in order to extract limestone. This gives this savart its very hilly configuration... Since 1993, this site has been managed by the Conservatory of Natural Sites of Picardy, due to the richness of its flora (about 7 species of orchids) and its fauna (nearly 10 rare and protected species are listed there). Also worth seeing nearby is the calcareous lawn of Mont Bossu in Chevregny...
