Institution, founded in 1701 by Louis XIV, it occupied the Vieille Bourse until the 19th century, but industrial growth quickly made the building cramped. Louis Cordonnier, who had just built the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, was commissioned to create the one in Lille at the entrance of the Carnot Boulevard.
The belfry, standing 76 meters tall, symbolizes the power of trading cities. Inside, the decorative program of the vast spaces praises work and courage, the sources of the city's prosperity. It is still a place for meetings, consultations, and the promotion of regional businesses.
