The Citadel of Lille is located in the middle of a city park on the edge of the center. The citadel was commissioned by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, after the city was taken by the French in 1667 under Louis XIV. Due to its size and allure, the citadel is considered the queen of all citadels. In the city park, around the citadel, it is wonderful to walk. There is also a free zoo and an amusement park for children.
The citadel is still military terrain and can only be visited by reservation for groups
