A sea of people surges here during Paris-Roubaix. Above them, yellow flags with black lions flutter. A mirage? No, rather a village on wheels.
Every other week, you would think the GPS has made a mistake. That you are actually 100 kilometers further north, and not in Camphin-en-Pévèle, a North French farming village a stone's throw from the Belgian border. But during this time, Flemish is the main language. A week before the race, a fleet of campers arrives, and a temporary colony is established. The 'villagers' come from all over Flanders, from Limburg to the coast.
