The lock staircase of Golbey is a lock staircase on the Canal des Vosges. It is located in the area of the French municipality of Golbey in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region.
The structure was built between 1876 and 1880 as part of the shipping canal then called Canal de l’Est. The construction of the canal was a direct consequence of the Franco-Prussian War, which ended in 1871 for France with the loss of Alsace and parts of Lorraine. To replace the waterway running north/south there, a substitute was created in the remaining territory: the Canal de l’Est. To supply water to the branch south of the canal section, the Bouzey reservoir was built, which collapsed in 1895 and caused an enormous disaster in the Moselle Valley with its flood wave. It has since been rebuilt and continues to serve its purpose.
