Obermorschwihr

A small village at an altitude of 260 meters, Obermorschwihr nestles some ten kilometers south of Colmar, at the foot of the Vosges foothills.

The entire commune is devoted to winegrowing, in the heart of a privileged microclimate, with rich soils, particularly at Bildstoeckle. The winegrowers put all their love and passion into making their great wines. An activity shared by many families who care for their plots.

The name Obermorschwihr appears in a charter dated 913. Surrounded by beautiful old houses, the church?s half-timbered bell tower, one of the few in Alsace, is the pride of the villagers.

Obermorschwihr is also fortunate to be overlooked by the Marbach site, a prestigious setting that combines the past, with the remains of Marbach Abbey founded in the 11th century, and the more recent buildings of a specialized education center.

If you're looking for a longer break, you can take advantage of the village's gîtes and two farm campsites. The village is an excellent starting point for walks and bike rides through the nearby vineyards, forests and plains, or for visits to the typical villages of the Colmar region.

- 11th-century narthex of Marbach Abbey, remnant of Alsace?s largest abbey (Centre Biecheler Marbach) cultural center.
