The National Museum of Prehistory is a center founded in 1918 by Denis Peyrony in the Occitan commune of Les Eyzies in Dordogne. Housed in a contemporary architectural building, the National Museum of Prehistory presents on-site a historical and prehistoric past of exceptional richness and gathers one of the most important collections of Paleolithic artifacts in France. It also allows visitors to discover traces of prehistoric humans through stone tools, artistic objects made of bone or ivory, life-sized reconstructions of prehistoric humans and extinct animals, which facilitate a better understanding of the evolution of human societies over the last 400,000 years.
