The 175 m high limestone hill of Mont Saint-Clair dominates large stretches of the French Mediterranean coast and the city of Sète.
Mont Saint-Clair is located about 30 km southwest of Montpellier by the Mediterranean or the Étang de Thau. It is flanked by narrow land spits and sandbanks extending in both directions along the coastline, separating the Mediterranean from the 18 km long lagoon, the Étang de Thau, which is fed by freshwater. About 25 km southwest of Sète lies the holiday and resort town of Cap d’Agde; approximately 45 km northeast is La Grande-Motte.
