Did you know that at Quai François Mitterrand, which was formerly known as Quai du Louvre, the most kissed face was pulled out of the water? At the end of the 19th century, a corpse was retrieved that would become one of the most famous faces in the art world. The face belonged to L'Inconnue de la Seine or the Unknown Woman of the Seine. A death mask was made from the unidentified female body. Remarkably, this death mask became very popular as wall decoration among artists after 1900. This woman also inspired a great many literary works. Albert Camus wrote about her mysterious smile, which he compared to that of the Mona Lisa. Her face was later used for resuscitation dolls. That is why this face is also referred to as the most kissed face in the world.
