De beklimming naar de Peyresourde vanaf Bagnères-de-Luchon brengt je de eerste 8 km (net voor Garin) door een nogal rommelige afzetting van gesteenten. Dit is een morene, restanten van een gesmolten gletsjer. Morenes kunnen enorm in formaat variëren; sommige morenecomplexen zijn tientallen meters hoog maar dit zijn hier kleinere types van slechts een paar meter hoog en meestal enkele tientallen meters lang.
