The Gorges de la Nesque is a gorge up to 400 metres deep in the Vaucluse department in southern France. The River Nesque, which dries up in summer, has dug deep into the limestone and winds its way over a length of 17 km from the village of Monieux to after Méthamis through an arid landscape. Road D942 from Villes-sur-Auzon to Monieux leads through the uninhabited gorge. On the Belvédère you have an impressive view of the rock Rocher du Cire opposite and in the gorge 300 meters deeper. In the Gorges de la Nesque, prehistoric remains of human habitation (objects of flint, teeth and bones) have been found. The Gorges de la Nesque is an important place in the book 'The Convert' by Stefan Hertmans.
