The castle of Aulan, is a castle built in the twelfth century on the site of an oppidum overlooking the valley of Toulourenc, in the Drôme, in France. It has been revised several times. The castle of Aulan was a strong point of the strategic device of the lords of Mévouillon, it was also possible to communicate with the mother house by optical signals. Financial difficulties led the Mévouillons to lose their barony and led Raymond IV to cede Aulan to his neighbour Hugues de Montbrun. In 1635, François-Marie de Suarez married Isabeau de l'Espine, heiress of the Château d'Aulan, which she brought as a dowry to her husband. Little by little, the castle underwent modifications and gradually became less defensive. During the revolution, the castle was destroyed, then looted and ruined.
