The Barricade viaduct is located on the A89 motorway, which connects Clermont-Ferrand and Bordeaux. This motorway, whose contracting authority is ASF, is the first major trans-European motorway.
It is situated on the first completed section of 40 km between Ussel Ouest and Le Sancy, running parallel to the RN 89. It allows for the crossing of the Barricade stream located near Merlines. This viaduct is located in a natural area of ecological, faunal, and floral interest of type II.
