The museum was established in 1927 in the former Augustinian convent of Hazebrouck. It is a remarkable building of late Flemish Renaissance style in transition with Baroque. It features a stepped gable and a gable with volutes, typically Flemish.
It houses a beautiful collection of Flemish and French paintings as well as some very fine pieces of sacred art from the church of Saint-Éloi.
