The museum was established in 1927 in a remarkable Flemish-style building, the former Augustinian convent (1616). On the first floor, the giant Roland in the guise of a knight in arms reminds us of the legendary lord of Hazebrouck and welcomes the visitor. His family, composed of Tisje-Tasje, Toria, Babe-Tisje, and Zoon-Tisje, occupies one of the rooms devoted to regional ethnology. This siblings sometimes leave the museum for festivities related to the community, a carnival or a procession. A traditional Flemish kitchen has been reconstructed with its copper, earthenware and tin. A gallery is then dedicated to sacred art around the Treasure of the Church of Saint Eloi, sculptures and religious paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, including The Temptation of St. Anthony by the workshop of Jerome Bosch and St. Augustine by Alonso De Herrera. The last gallery of the cloister allows to discover among others the work of César Pattein, painter born in Hazebrouck in 1850.
