Longueil-Annel, a charming, peaceful village nestling on the banks of the Oise and its lateral canal, is renowned for its fascinating history of inland navigation.
La Cité des Bateliers traces the evolution of river navigation. You'll be immersed in the world of boatmen, past and present. Your visit will take in a number of areas and highlights: firstly, the museum house, a former business, with areas devoted to major inventions, followed by audio books featuring authentic testimonials from former boatmen, and finally, the film on the history of the village, key dates in the history of the barge industry and future projects; secondly, the 1936 Freycinet barge, on which you will be fully immersed in the daily life of this very special profession.
You can continue the adventure by taking the walking tour along the waterway for a bucolic stroll.
Finally, the L?Escapade hybrid boat lets you enjoy a ride along the waterway, with or without catering, between Longueil-Annel and Compiègne, accompanied by the on-board sailor.
