Tour Magne is a tower in the Gard department in Nîmes, France. The tower dates from the first century BC and is the only remaining part of the Roman defensive wall around the city of Nîmes, then called Nemausus.
The Tour Magne is a tower of Celtic origin. The original function of the - initially 18-metre-high - tower is unclear. When Emperor Augustus in 16 B.C. In the 19th century AD, several existing buildings were incorporated into the new wall, including the Tour Magne. The tower was doubled in height.
