Le Drumont

The Drumont is the summit of the Vosges massif which is located in Bussang. From an altitude of 1200 meters, it offers a remarkable panorama. An orientation table of the French Alpine Club dating from 1891 explains the marvellous circular panorama. A glance at the valley reveals Bussang, nestled on the side of the Tête des Corbeaux. The panorama of the Ballon d'Alsace, the Rossberg and the Grand Ballon is simply grandiose. To the south, on a very clear day, you can see the Swiss Alps. The panorama offers an alternation of wooded peaks and urbanized valleys. The thatch of Drumont is a typical Vosges summer pasture where cows produce the milk for the production of Munster and Tome cheese. The marked trails offer routes for hikers of all levels. The summit is frequented by paragliders but also by model aircraft enthusiasts who fly their scale models. But the Drumont is also a high place of resistance, the Chaume du Drumont was burned by the Germans on September 23rd, 1944. A plaque evokes the sacrifice of the volunteers during the fighting in 1944. A farmhouse inn offers local specialities as well as accommodation in dormitories for hikers. Access to Drumont is not possible in winter as the road is not clear. The bravest can try to reach it on snowshoes!
