Château du Hohlandsbourg

A glimpse into history, a living castle!

Situated at an altitude of 620 metres, Hohlandsbourg castle offers a unique 360° view over the Black Forest, the Alsace plain and the Vosges mountains.

Built on the initiative of the Habsburgs (13th-17th centuries), it is a fine example of military architecture in Alsace until the Thirty Years' War, when it fell into ruin.

The high granite walls enclose a large courtyard dominated to the north by the upper castle. A fun, interactive scenographic tour shows and explains the history, organization and place of the castle, from the original Bronze Age site to the present day.

Today, this strategic site has become a place of leisure and discovery for families: self-guided or guided tours, exhibitions, participatory workshops, birthday parties, historical re-enactments, medieval banquets and more.
