The castle is located at 480m altitude in the small village of Wangenbourg. It was erected in the 13th century by the Sires of Wangen on a natural rocky spur. This castle was used as a defense against looters. The villagers were welcomed in the castle to be safe
To get there you have to cross a bridge that leads directly to the inner courtyard. From there you can admire the numerous windows, as well as the remains of a magnificent gothic style fireplace. You can then access the 24m high dungeon and climb up if you have the courage. Once you have climbed the tower, you will have a breathtaking view of the Mossig valley. The visit of the tower is however open from April to November. And it is possible to visit the castle in free visit all the year. The access is free all year long. A parking lot is located at the tourist office.
