These two towers from the 14th century, with the Saint-Trave church, ramparts and underground chambers, are the most visible remains of the old medieval fortress. With a height of 40 meters, the Tour de l'Aubespin consists of four vaulted halls and an upper terrace that offers a remarkable panoramic view over Montbard and the Brenne valley, crossed by the Burgundy Canal. The Saint Louis tower, reworked by Buffon in the 18th century, housed both the summer cabinet, the laboratory and the famous biologist's library.
