The Béthune Town Cemetery is a First World War cemetery located in Béthune in the French department of Pas-de-Calais. The cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
During the first part of the war 14-18, Béthune was relatively sheltered from bombings, the city had an important railway hub and a hospital. The 33rd Casualty Station was established in the city until December 1917. In early 1918, Béthune began to suffer from artillery fire from the German army. In April 1918, German forces reached Locon, five kilometers to the north. On May 21, 1918, in rage for not having captured Béthune, the Germans launched a bombardment that almost razed the city to the ground.
