The Monréal tower is built on a cliff overlooking the Gave d'Oloron. It is part of the defensive elements of the city of Sauveterre-de-Béarn, in addition to the ramparts and a few strong points such as the fortified church of Saint-André to the east and further west, the viscount's castle and the Legend bridge.
