The Neste Canal is an irrigation canal on the Lannemezan plateau in the Hautes-Pyrénées department, Occitanie region.
The Neste Canal, located at an average altitude of 553 meters, was built between 1848 and 1862 and was put into use in 1863. It has a capacity of 7m³/s and is intended to regulate the flow of 17 rivers. The Neste Canal is named after the first stream that receives water from this canal, the Neste. The canal is 28 km long and originates from the Garonne near the village of Beyrède-Jumet close to Sarrancolin. It then follows the D929 road northward towards Lannemezan. Along its route, the canal passes beneath the village of Hèches. The capacity of the canal was doubled to 14 m³/s in 1950. A series of reservoirs captures melting water in the spring. Of these lakes, only the lake of Orédon, built between 1871 and 1879, is not connected to a power station. The lakes of Cap de Long, Caillauas, Aubert, and Aumar are. These reservoirs release the collected water to the Garonne throughout the year.
