The Battle of the Marshes of Saint-Gond was a battle of the First World War that took place from 5 to 9 September 1914 during the First Battle of the Marne. It pitted the right wing of General von Bülow's German Second Army and the left wing of General von Hausen's German Third Army against the French 9th Army led by General Foch. During this battle, German troops launched repeated frontal assaults on the French lines in order to cut the French armies in two. The French 9th Army was ordered to hold and repel German attempts at breakthroughs.
