Grimaud Castle is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle in France. It rises on a hill that slightly overshadows the town of Grimaud in the Département Var.
The castle, mentioned as early as the 11th century, was the seat of the Seigneur of Freinet, who was a vassal of the Count of Provence. In the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period, the castle was granted to various noble families who modified and expanded it. Disarmed during the Huguenot Wars, it was transformed into a château-like complex in the 17th/18th centuries. After being confiscated during the French Revolution and subsequently used as a quarry, the castle gradually fell into ruin. Today, its remnants are secured and open to visitors free of charge all year round.
