Listed as a historic monument, Maison Breton is the oldest inhabited building in the village, with a tower dating back to the 13th century. Originally owned by the painter Henri Martin, it was acquired by the internationally-renowned writer André Breton, who lived there every summer between 1951 and 1966.
The house is now home to the CISCM (Centre International du Surréalisme et de la Citoyenneté Mondiale - International Center for Surrealism and World Citizenship), and unveils a visitor's itinerary in direct line with the poet's thought: themed exhibition spaces, hanging gardens, literary café, bookshop, artists' residences, university research center.
The artistic tour starts at the Maison Rignault, just above.
