Regional natural park of the Forêt d'Orient

The Forêt d'Orient Regional Nature Park is a French regional nature park in the Aube department. It was established in 1970 and is one of the first five regional nature parks in France.

With an area of 80,000 hectares, it comprises 58 municipalities (58 municipalities that have signed the Charter 2010-2021) that represent a population of approximately 23,000 inhabitants.

This park is home to large reservoir lakes (5,000 ha), nestled deep forests and framed, in the west and east, rolling limestone radiations. There are 106 private ponds where high-quality fishing is developing.
These artificial lakes are part of the Seine river control system set up since the mid-1960s. The structures (dykes and supply channels, restitution) are managed by the Interdepartmental Institute for Dams Reservoirs of the Seine river basin. Institution of the city of Paris, they also manage the lakes of Der-Chantecoq and Pannecière. The birth of the lakes makes this area a must for migratory birds from the north and on their way to the hot African countries. The park also includes 25,000 hectares of forest, where oak and hornbeam trees predominate and many of which are private. The timber sector is the largest employer in the territory.

It is home to the national nature reserve Forêt d'Orient, established in 2002 and the regional nature reserve Courteranges Moist Meadows, established in 2010. It is part of the largest French wetland of international importance, especially for wild birds. under the Ramsar Convention: Ramsar wetland ponds site (255,000 acres).
