The regional nature park of the Vosges du Nord was built on December 30, 1975. It groups 111 municipalities with a total population of 90,000 and extends over the departments of Bas-Rhin and Moselle. Contrary to what the name suggests, this park is therefore not in the Vosges department, nor in the middle of the Vosges (the tops of which are several tens of kilometers further south) but only on the edge; the northern Vosges are considered the northern course of the solid mass of the Vosges that the southern part of the solid mass of Vasgovie. The park is part of the cross-border biosphere reserve of the Northern Vosges Pfälzerwald.
