JARDIN DOMINIQUE ALEXANDRE GODRON

Located just a few steps from Place Stanislas and behind the Muséum-Aquarium, the Dominique Alexandre Godron garden is home to many admirable species. Founded by Stanislas in 1758, it was Nancy's first botanical garden. It retained its botanical vocation until 1993, when the collections were moved to another, larger site in the conurbation: the present Jardin Botanique Jean-Marie Pelt. Nowadays, the garden, with its educational vocation, aims to show the public horticultural collections of labeled plants, intended for the floral decoration of gardens. It is named after the famous botanist Dominique Alexandre Godron. He was the garden's director in the second half of the 19th century.

Among the 61 trees in the garden, you'll be able to admire an osage orange, a twisted beech, a forty-ecus tree (whose leaves inspired some of the École de Nancy artists), a Virginia tulip tree and a large American walnut.

In 2010, the site was awarded the "Remarkable Garden" label, for its composition, landscape integration, remarkable features and botanical interest. Then in October 2014, it also became one of three "Ensembles arborés remarquables" on the national level. The A.R.B.R.E.S. association wanted to salute the diversity and botanical interest of the trees present, and the daily management of this urban nature area.
