The only remaining part of the Dominican convent, founded in Agen in 1249, the church was built in the second half of the 13th century.
It consists of two juxtaposed naves separated by a thorn of 3 pillars forming a vast rectangular hall in which the crowd could come to listen to the brilliant preachers.
A monument of early Gothic style, the church preserves beautiful traces of its original decoration, which reappeared during the last restoration
It witnessed many events that marked the life of the Agenais: on 9 August 1279, it was within its walls that the ceremony was held during which the Agenais was officially returned to England by Philip the Bold. In 1585, Queen Margot settled there and transformed it into a citadel. In March 1789, it was in the convent that the Cahiers de doléances de la Révolution were written for Agen.
