In the north of Bordeaux near the Dordogne and the estuary of the Gironde, discover Pair-non-Pair, one of the oldest decorated caves in the world. The archaeological excavations, conducted by François Daleau at the end of the 19th century, yielded several tens of thousands of tools and animal bones, sources of information on the evolution of the human species, lithic and osseous industries, as well as climate and environment.
The cave features wall engravings dating back to the early Upper Paleolithic, over 30,000 years ago. Utilizing the natural relief of the walls, they depict figures of horses, mammoths, bovids, ibexes, and deer, including a megatherium, an animal that is very rarely depicted.
