The Deneuvre church was built between 1742 and 1747 on the site of the château-fort, using some of its materials. Its construction was decided under Stanislas, and continued until 1755, when the Presbytery and its outbuildings were built.
The massive tower of the Eglise Saint-Rémy is topped by a bulbous bell-tower. It's a perfect example of a barn church, i.e., one without pillars.
The building's statuary and furnishings are almost entirely listed as Monuments Historiques. Most of the stone statues (16th century) come from the first church (1310-1715). A marble high altar, an imposing 18th-century painting and three Baccarat crystal chandeliers complete the edifice. But the masterpiece of the Eglise Saint-Rémy is undoubtedly the 1704 organ; restored in 1996, the instrument has regained its original appearance and timbres, with 22 stops on 3 manuals and a "à la Française" pedalboard.
The Eglise de Deneuvre was built between 1742 and 1747 on the site of the château-fort, using some of its materials. It was built under Stanislas to replace the Laitre church, which was in danger of falling into ruin.
In his account, Bernhardt gives the following details of the construction of this new church: "What remained of the Château was buried under 5 meters of earth and rubble. Only the outer walls remained. The huge belvedere formed by the earthworks became private property. Behind the church, as far as the Porte Saint-Nicolas, the old ground formed a sunken path, which was not filled in until 1755. At that time, the Presbytery and its outbuildings were built where they still stand today". The massive tower is surmounted by a bulbous belfry topped by a bell tower. It's a perfect example of a barn church, i.e., one without pillars.
The building's statuary and furnishings are almost entirely listed as Monuments Historiques. Most of the stone statues (16th century) come from the first church (1310-1715), of which a few vestiges of the porch are still visible inside the cemetery. A marble high altar, an imposing 18th-century painting and three Baccarat crystal chandeliers complete the edifice. But the masterpiece of the Eglise Saint-Rémy is undoubtedly the 1704 organ, built by Claude Legros, an organ builder from Metz. Restored in 1996 by the Manufacture d'Orgue Luxembourgeoise Georg Westenfelder, the instrument has regained its original appearance and timbres. Its 22 stops are distributed over 3 manuals and a French-style pedalboard. A brochure describing the restoration is on sale at the Musée des Sources d'Hercule.
