This library is one of the most beautiful 19th century buildings in Cahors. In neoclassical style, it is the work of the architect Jean Rodolosse who drew his inspiration from the great models of the 18th century. The interior space is organised around a large rectangular consulting room, organised in regular bays on two levels, and whose wall panelling is entirely carpeted with works. Two spiral stairways lead to the upper gallery. The ceiling is adorned with garlands of foliage and flowers surrounding rosettes. The collections are very rich, combining manuscripts, incunabula, prints... The encyclopaedic collection contains 40,000 documents.
