MÉDIATHÈQUE JOSEPH SCHAEFER

The Joseph Schaefer Media Library is a structure of the Community of Communes of the Pays de Bitche and as a departmental public reading center, it serves the Sarreguemines-Bitche area.

The Joseph Schaefer Media Library is housed in one of the oldest houses in Bitche, which was transformed into a military hospital in the 18th century, and is built around a square courtyard and a garden. Rehabilitated in 1999 by the architect Jacques Rizzotti, the Joseph Schaefer Media Library has a special, enchanting atmosphere that fascinates its readers and visitors. The library was renovated in 2020 and redesigned by Fred Rieffel, in order to make the spaces functional and flexible and to offer new digital services, while enhancing the interior of this heritage building.

A place of exchange and culture, the Media Library offers meetings, workshops, video game sessions and shows open to all and for all ages. It also has a digital space and a local collection accessible during opening hours.

The consultation of documents on site is free for all.
It is essential to register to borrow any document. Registration is individual and annual.

It is possible to come and play video games every Wednesday from 2 to 5:30 pm and Saturdays from 2 to 4:30 pm. From 9 years old.

The basic loan rate is reduced for students under 26 years of age, agents of the Communauté des communes du Pays de Bitche and the Bitche town hall, and is free of charge for those receiving RSA benefits, the unemployed, and the handicapped upon presentation of proof.

Thursday: closed to the general public, group visits only.
