Moulin de Sarreinsming

Perched on the steep slopes of the hillsides on the right bank of the Saar, Sarreinsming is a former village of farmers and winegrowers, which has become a charming residential community. Traces of prehistoric occupation have been discovered (carved flint and the presence of burial mounds in the Grosswald forest). The archaeological excavations carried out over several decades have above all revealed the existence of an important Gallo-Roman centre, on a Roman road that went towards Bliesbruck, then through the Blies valley towards Deux-Ponts.
Opposite the two Wiesing farmsteads in the Grosswald forest, the remains of a fairly large Gallo-Roman villa have been uncovered which included a complex of thermal baths and a network of canals. Nearby, excavations at the Heidenkopf site have revealed the existence of a Gallo-Roman settlement (vicus), with a craftsmen's quarter and a coinage workshop. Belonging to the duchy of Lorraine, Sarreinsming often changed lords between the 13th century and the Revolution. The village and its castle built in the 13th century were completely destroyed during the Thirty Years War. Reconstructions from the 18th century remain a completely restored mill with two turns, which today embellishes a naturally pleasant site. In the village, a house bears the inscription < Horreum St. Walfrod >> : this is the building in which the tithe was stored.
The barn-style church of St. Kyriacus was built in 1824 and rebuilt in 1894.
