The most beautiful works of Louis Jou are exhibited in an intimate setting in the six rooms of the Hôtel Renaissance Jean de Brion, amidst the marbles and the many collections of incunabula, old books, engravings by Dürer and Goya, paintings, sculptures and ceramics. Also visit the workshop containing the hand presses of Louis Jou, master typographer, engraver, printer and editor. Louis Jou (1881-1968) was one of the greatest typographers of the century. He was the only one of his peers to design and produce a work completely on his own. A xylographer and metal engraver, Jou designed and created his own characters. He decorated some of the bindings of works printed on his presses. Originally from Catalonia, he produced books which have had a major influence on the development of the contemporary book. The master typographer was also a fully-fledged artist - engraver, painter, sculptor and ceramicist.
