Shepherdess, then seamstress and finally writer: Marguerite Audoux (1863-1937) had an exceptional destiny, which the exhibition retraces here from a fresh angle with the scenographic means of today. The unique and authentic collection of her personal items are found along the route: her furniture, signed by Francis Jourdain, her correspondence with her many artistic connections, original manuscripts, writing accessories, sewing books, paintings and family photos. An orphan, Marguerite Audoux, nee Donquichote, worked as a shepherdess looking after lambs at the age of 14 and then as a maid on a farm in Sainte-Montaine. Her most famous novel, Marie-Claire (prix Fémina 1910), is strongly inspired by her life in Sologne, a land she will always be nostalgic for.
