LA CHAPELLE DE PITIÉ

The Chapelle de Pitié is located in a place called "Les Granges". It was destroyed during the last war and was rebuilt just after the war. It was restored by the volunteers of the association of the Voye. Bombed by the allied artillery on October 20, 1944, rebuilt by the abbot Cunat in 1948 with the money from the war damages, the renovated chapel is now one of the most beautiful jewels of our local heritage. At the initiative of La Voye, the project was launched at the end of 2010 with the partnership of the town hall, and the inauguration took place on Heritage Day on Sunday 17 June 2012. From spring 2011, work will begin to improve access, followed by the dismantling of the framework and the construction of the dry stone walls. Then, 13 men and 8 women volunteers meet regularly on weekends to continue the work: stripping the walls and making a lime plaster. Then it is the turn of the framework to be completely redone, the roof covered with slates, the walls raised and the windows framed with sandstone are enriched with superb stained glass windows. Inside, the piéta takes its place in a new niche and the cross and the decorations of the restored gate are gilded with leaf. The floor is covered with sandstone slabs. Finally, the space around the chapel is rearranged. Accessible by car and open all year round.
