CHÂTEAU SAINT-SIXTE

Head for the Pays de Nied by the road leading to Freistroff near Bouzonville. In a small plain between Freistroff and Remelfang stands the majestic Saint-Sixte castle, built in the 12th century by Lord Wirich de Valcourt. Transformed into a residence during the Renaissance and then redesigned in the 18th century, this architectural jewel was saved from ruin by the Gehl family from Falck in 1986. It is an oval-shaped building, surrounded by an ancient moat, whose six buildings, covered with high gable roofs of flaked tiles, are arranged around an inner courtyard. In each corner, a polygonal stair turret provides access to the upper floors. In 1998, it won the first prize of Vieilles Maisons Françaises (Grand Prix Friends of VMF).
